What’s my first blog post going to be?
It’s been a long time (a few weeks now) that I have been trying to setup and write my first blog post. I have been stressed out and worried as well – just like this

I have enrolled for training courses and am learning about online marketing from industry renowned leaders, so I have a handful of ideas.
But what’s my first blog post going to be? Many pro bloggers would recommend
- Writing some introductory post which is a good way to start for newbie’s, cool stuff.
- Quality content that will offer immense value to readers but you need to be a pro in blogging, your niche, your field of expertise.
- Offer a freebie that may be an eBook, software, etc you have developed in the field of your expertise.
People reading this post have either been through this or are witnessing this phase. Just take a moment and think of what your first post was or what your first post is going to be.
What did I do? I chose a slightly different approach not in the list; I am following my heart and writing what I feel like …. and its going to be my 3 main obstacles I experienced for the first blog post!
I like to be perfect in what I do. As most of you would agree, this is a good characteristic but this is also a primary reason that has stopped me (until now) from writing my first blog.
The second was information overload, there was so much of information around that I did not get around doing any activity through to completion.
The third major obstacle was fear
- What am I going to write about?
- What would people think of my blog?
- What do I have to offer?
- I have never written any blogs, articles, etc
- I don’t have the copy writing skills … and lots more
So what made me overcome both these obstacles – being perfectionist, information overload and fear?
This breakthrough came from
- A coaching session of a renowned leader in our industry – “You cannot become a perfectionist until you are in the game i.e. Michael Jordan did not become a basket ball legend by sitting outside and watching other people play the game.J” which means “Don’t get it right, but get it going” and eventually you will do it right and perfect.
- A proverb that says “How do you eat an elephant? It is one bite at a time…”. I mean no disrespect to any person, caste, religion whatsoever, but it’s just a powerful proverb that says do 1 thing at a time.
- A quote sent by a friend/partner “An obstacle is something you see if you take your eyes off your goal!” Fear is an obstacle that stops us moving forward and it needs to be dealt face to face.
These things really hit me and I thought to myself, aaah well !!!, we all know this, right? But still so many people shy away from this fact. What this meant for me is “taking ACTION” and writing my first blog. Being “IN the game” is the “NAME of the game” & can help “WIN the game”.
I have managed to start overcoming my obstacles, and I hope you have too.
This blog post might add some value to a few, but I’m pretty sure it will encourage people not yet in the game, will bring back good old memories for the Pros and also be a reminder for folks to do things that they intend to do since a long time but have been shying away from them!
Cheers!

I like your post, the fact that your site is a little bit different makes it so interesting, I get sick up seeing the same old boring recycled stuff all of the time.

Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for a related topic, your site came up, it looks good.

Nice Website. You should think more about RSS Feeds as a traffic source. They bring me a nice bit of traffic.

Hi – very good web site you have created. I enjoyed reading this posting. I did want to write a comment to tell you that the design of this site is very aesthetically sweet. I used to be a graphic designer, now I am a copy editor. I have always enjoyed playing with information processing systems and am trying to learn computer code in my spare time.

Just want to say what a great blog you got here!
I’ve been around for quite a lot of time, but finally decided to show my appreciation of your work!
Thumbs up, and keep it going!

Hi Christian,
Thanks for visiting. Yeah, Michael Jordan is an all time favourite and has an audience of all ages and era’s. This is one of the examples that has really made profound impact on putting things into action and not to worry about perfection in the first instance.

Hi Brandon,
Thanks for your comments. Am writing my next post which is about me as Alex suggested so that readers know who I am and they also have a face to the name – so will try and find some pictures that I can upload as well …
Its just been an amazing journey so far … I still cannot believe I wrote my first post – whatever I felt clearly – even about my fear … just glad I did it!
Visited your blog earlier, will be hopping to it again since one of the point in your 15 things really clicked me …

Hi Abizer – first, your blog is beautiful, visually appealing, it makes people WANT to return.
Second, I’m empathetic – you come from the same place as I do – the heart! And then there’s the journey from there …
Third – this “winning” thing needs closer examination => someone is going to get the most posts/traffic. So here I am, helping you win. Hmmmmmm. Am I not going against my own interests? NO.
This community keeps expanding. Every blog I visit during Alex’s coaching teaches me something of value. I’ve learned interesting things about YOU from your first post and from your site design here.
So if you want my support, you’ve got it!
To your great success, Jim
PS – look in on my site again if you have a moment. I have no trouble writing, but I struggle with design, because I appreciate beauty. So after getting the site up last Tuesday, I revamped the look over this weekend [obvious flaws there, but visually much more appealing!].

Hey Jim,
Appreciate your lovely comments and support extended. I think supporting each other is the only way we ALL can achieve success. I looked into your blog and it looks good. With your permission would like to make a few suggestions …
- add twitter & facebook widgets (& if you don’t have accounts then please do create one)… this will help people connect to you and develop long term relations.
- install the Widlink widget that Alex has provided (this lists the students from the WMA3.0 course) which helps traffic flowing to other students blog from yours …
- wherever you can add some graphics / pictures to your blog posts, that makes it more interesting …
Hope that helps.
Cheers!

Hi Abizer,
Great first post. I like your writing style. Nothing better than writing an honest article straight from the heart.
I agree, fear can be a factor in stopping us getting to our dreams. However, there is a little fear in all of us. I believe if it is channelled correctly, fear can also be used as one of our biggest tools as it allows us to stay focused and see our dream.
Looking forward to seeing further posts.

Hey Simon,
What a lovely piece of advice & thought – “if channelled correctly fear an also be used as one of our biggest tools as it allows us to stay focused and see our dream” .. its makes so much of sense and also it relates to many other things in general like “its not only the speed but the direction that helps you reach your goals”.
Appreciate that you liked the way I write, really motivates me. Thx.

Thanks for your comment. You know, its really funny … would you believe if I said that I was suppose to add a post with the subject “response to comments on your blog…” to understand whether its a good idea to respond to comments on our blog or thank them in the MWA forum or thank them on their own blogs, etc. …. That really helps.

Howdy Abizer,
Great insights. This post is packed with value!
The thoughts you had on your “breakthrough” were pure gold! This is stuff we can all learn from.
“These things really hit me and I thought to myself, aaah well !!!, we all know this, right? But still so many people shy away from this fact.”
EXACTLY.
There are so many things that we KNOW we should do or need to do but for some reason we don’t. So many things that are obvious and flying around in our faces and all it takes is a little jolt until we each have our own “ah hah!” moment and start taking action.
Thanks.
Peace,

Hi Daren,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, its so amazing that we have things right in front of us but we don’t seem to realise it …
Most newbies like me who start online marketing, and esp. something like blogging / article writing for the first time, its just that we try to avoid it … I use to avoid it by prioritising other tasks over it
because I was (I still am little bit) afraid of doing it … I think one of Sally’s blog post @ sallyneill.com also talks about it. Have a read through it, it is a nice post.
Have you had any of your ah-hah moments recently ?
Cheers!

wicked man, 1st post up, nothing stopping you now, just chill, everything will fall into place.. what i have noticed is that nobody will be judgemental, only in a positive way.
its 1 big exciting learning curve, we all learn somewhere, and by our mistakes on the way..
im in exactly the same position as you, total newbie, 1st blog, 1st website, 1st forum, the lot.. but we are with the best bunch of people possible.
download the blog set up tutorial, its helped me loads, probably be looking topnotch in a day or 2.. simples.. be good.. nick

Hey Nick
Thanks for your encouragement, sometimes we tend to think too much about results which is not required since it firstly holds us back from taking action, secondly slows down our pace and finally we dont end up doing it to our full potential.
Its definitely a BIG learning curve but I would have to say that I’ve started enjoying it – after the first blog has come up, some encouraging comments flowing in, its like “oh yeah, this is for real and we can do it!” feeling.
Cheers!

Good 1st post mate, you covered all the bases there I think.
For me the killer paragraph was,
“You cannot become a perfectionist until you are in the game i.e. Michael Jordan did not become a basket ball legend by sitting outside and watching other people play the game.J” which means “Don’t get it right, but get it going” and eventually you will do it right and perfect.”
That my friend is exactly the key point right there.
